Pot roast is the ultimate comfort food that everyone loves. This is definitely a family favorite in the colder months for a delicious, warm meal. I also love how easy this meal is to make but especially how good it tastes for such little effort. With this pot roast recipe, I can quickly dump everything into a crockpot before work and have a wonderful meal ready to go when I get home! This is also a great dish to make when you have house guests. They will rave at how delicious this is, and you will have plenty of time to do other household chores or spend time with guests.

How to Make Pot Roast in the Crockpot

First, place the roast, potatoes, onion, and carrots in a crockpot.

Spread minced garlic over the roast.

Next, sprinkle brown gravy and seasoning packets over the roast. This along with the drippings from the meat will make its own gravy.

Pour in the water.

Finally, place the lid on the crockpot and cook on low for 8-10 hours. When done, pull the meat apart with some forks, serve, and enjoy.

What Type of Potatoes Should be used in Pot Roast

Choosing the best type of potatoes for a pot roast recipe will depend on your own preference. Russet potatoes will work just fine when cut into cubes, but when slow-cooked for several hours will turn very soft. However, if you prefer a potato with a little more consistency and not quite as mushy after being slow-cooked for several hours, then a Yukon potato would be a better option.

What to Serve with Pot Roast

This pot roast recipe is hearty enough for a meal on its own. However, some potential options for sides include a side salad, garlic bread, or a fruit salad. Any of these would be easy options to include with your pot roast.
