Homemade spaghetti sauce is easier than you might think, and you probably already have most of the ingredients. Use this meat sauce for your next comfort meal served over spaghetti. You will never use the canned sauce again, it is so simple and delicious!
Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
I often crave a homemade spaghetti sauce served over some al dente spaghetti noodles. It is just one of those comfort meals that tastes so good and is so simple to make. This is one of my go to meals because it is easy and the whole family loves it! It’s a win-win for everyone.
I have to confess when I was first learning to cook on my own, I always bought the canned pasta sauce because it was “easy”. That was until I learned how truly simple making homemade spaghetti sauce actually was, but especially how much better it tasted! Oh my goodness, I will never go back. You have to try this!
You probably have most of the ingredients you need already in your pantry. This is a marinara meat sauce, so it has a browned ground beef sautéed with minced garlic and onion. The red cooking wine along with the Worcestershire sauce really gives the sauce a rich, flavorful taste.
The sauce starts with a can of tomato puree, which allows the sauce to have a thicker consistency. The tomato puree alone can be slightly bitter, so I like to add sugar to cut the bitterness. The Italian seasoning and the parsley bring all the flavors together for the most delicious homemade spaghetti sauce. I also add some water to ensure the sauce doesn’t dry out while simmering. Try cooking the sauce in a Dutch oven to evenly cook the sauce throughout.
How to Make Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
To start making this, you will need to first brown the ground beef and onion and season with salt and pepper until fully cooked. Next, add the garlic and sauté for another minute. Now, pour in the tomato puree, sugar, wine, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and parsley and stir to combine.
Add some water and bring the sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat, and allow to simmer for 30 minutes to cook down the liquid and allow the flavors to permeate throughout. Serve right away over cooked spaghetti if desired or save for later. Try serving it with this delicious fruit salad.
How to Store
Refrigerator: The sauce can be stored up to 1 week in the refrigerator.
Freezer: Allow the sauce to cool first. Place sauce in a glass container such as these and ensure the lid is secured tightly. The glass container will keep the flavor from being altered and is versatile to use. The sauce can be stored for up to 6 months in the freezer.
