How can something this easy to make have the most delicious flavor that everyone craves? What Kind of Meat is Used in French Dip Sandwiches
A type of beef roast is used to make French dip sandwiches. I like to use a chuck roast for my French Dip sandwich recipe. A rump roast is also a good alternative to use for the recipe. The meat is braised in liquid to become extra tender and easy to pull apart which can then be placed on a French roll or a Hoagie roll.
How to Make French Dip Sandwiches
To make French Dip sandwiches, start by placing the chuck roast into a crockpot. Next, add the beef broth and the two cans of soup and pour directly over the meat. The flavorful broth made from the pan drippings is referred to as “au jus”. The combination of the two soups and broth cooked with the chuck roast will make for a tasty au jus to dip your sandwiches in.
Turn the crockpot on low and allow to cook for 8-10 hours. If you don’t have a full 8 hours to cook, you can also cook on high for 4 hours instead. The longer cook time on low will certainly make for a more tender and flavorful roast, however if you are in a hurry it is certainly an option to cook faster. This is the perfect dish to throw into your crockpot before heading to work for the day. There is not much better than coming home to dinner already made.
Remove the roast from the crockpot and shred the meat. The meat should be nice and tender and easy to pull apart with forks. Place a desired amount of the shredded beef onto each hoagie roll and top with slices of provolone cheese.
Place sandwiches under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
Use the remaining pan drippings and skim off any fat. Pour au jus into individual serving bowls, dip sandwiches into au jus with each bite, and enjoy!
